Renovation and Infrastructure Improvements

This project provides seismic upgrade and general restoration to ten State Fair buildings and a complete replacement of the campus’ underground infrastructure, including fire main, domestic water, storm and sanitary sewers. Seismic upgrades range from anchoring roofs to walls, creating seismic shear diaphragms, to building a concrete and steel structure inside the unsupported masonry Stadium that pins the old structure to the new frame. After decades of minimal maintenance and disrepair, the restorations will return the buildings to operable and, in some buildings, historic conditions. Fire detection and sprinkler systems will be added to several buildings. All work is being performed while the Oregon State Fair Grounds remains open for business with year-round events and exhibits, allowing tenants to enjoy full use of the properties.

The photos illustrate the magnitude of the seismic upgrade and restorations within the historic Stadium building. New concrete footings and 12" thick, 80 foot long concrete shear walls are already constructed in each corner of the building. These are being joined to the new structural steel beam and perimeter column system by thick concrete “collector” straps, 20’ high along each wall.
