The single story American Honda facility, located in Gresham, Oregon, consists of a 168,000 sf parts warehouse, an 18,000 sf office and a 25,000 sf training center. Pence/Kelly Concrete, LLC was the concrete subcontractor on the project.
Due to American Honda’s automated conveyor system, extremely high standards were needed in the warehouse flooring. The flooring had flatness/levelness requirements of 50/35. Typical flatness/levelness standards are 35/30. Pence/Kelly exceeded American Honda’s requirements by achieving factors of 60/54. Additionally, the owner specified a crack clause that would disallow any crack that exceeded the width of a credit card. Pence/Kelly was proud to give American Honda a floor that met this specification.
American Honda was awarded a Gold LEED certification. Flyash, a concrete ingredient that reduces environmental impact, was used as a partial replacement of cement.
